St. Helena officially became a town in 1876. Ellen White, a co-founder of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, had a home called Elmshaven near downtown St. Helena, and the site is now a National Historic Landmark. St. Helena’s infamous Beringer Vineyards and Charles Krug Winery are both California Historical Landmarks as well.
